“How does Christian Science Relate to Orthodox Theology?”
Rider, Timothy. “How does Christian Science Relate to Orthodox Theology?” Acta Comparanda Subsidia II (2015): 53–59.
Rider takes core biblical texts (for Christians) and makes a comparison between how Mary Baker Eddy and orthodox theology interpret them. The point he makes is that Christian Science provides “a radically different interpretation of the Gospels from the traditional orthodox view”(53). The texts under examination are the creation stories in Genesis and the fall of humankind, the Lord’s Prayer, the miracles of Jesus, and the crucifixion and resurrection. In such a brief article, he was not able to fully capture either the multivalent development of Christianity throughout its history, or the nuance of Christian Science theology and Eddy’s deep affinity with the Christian church.
