“‘Mary Baker Eddy Mentioned Them’: B. O. Flower”
Yemma, John. “‘Mary Baker Eddy Mentioned Them’: B. O. Flower.” The Christian Science Journal 134, no. 1 (2016): 15–17.
Though not well known in the 21st century, B.O. Flower actively participated in the evolution of journalism in the late 19th century. His voice of moderation and fair play contradicted the style of the more common muckrakers whose initial intentions were to challenge the economic and social ills of the day. But the unrestrained muckraking attacks on Mary Baker Eddy got out of hand and reached beyond the boundaries of mere journalistic investigation. Flower’s dislike for bullies and scaremongers allowed him to be one of the few journalists who gave serious consideration to the meaning of Eddy’s work and her contribution to human development. Yemma’s brief article published in a 21st-century The Christian Science Journal brings Flower’s work to the attention of modern Christian Scientists.
