The True and False Records of Creation
Doorly, John W. The True and False Records of Creation. Vol. 1 of 9. Talks Given by John W. Doorly on the Science of the Bible. London: The Foundational Book Company, Ltd., 1957.
Doorly’s relationship to Christian Science and the Christian Science Church is explained in the front matter: “…for forty-seven years he taught and practiced Christian Science. … In 1945 he was forced to leave the Christian Science church organization because his interpretation of the teachings of Christian Science differed from that of the authorities of the church at that time. Always a deep student of the Bible and of the Christian Science textbook, John Doorly continued his research and practice…” (5). This book is a collection of the first ten of his weekly talks in London, beginning in 1947, on the subject, “The Science of the Bible.” All these talks are compiled in nine volumes that cover most of the Old Testament. Doorly covers the first few chapters of Genesis in this book of ten talks, (Volume 1 of 9), which is titled “The True and False Records of Creation.” His interpretation is based on his understanding of Eddy’s identification of seven synonymous terms for God. Using these synonyms for God (Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love) he sees a spiritual Science running through the Bible narrative. During the same three-year period, Doorly held a Summer School in Oxford, attended by about 500 people.
