What Did Jesus Say? The Second Coming of Christ

What Did Jesus Say? The Second Coming of Christ

Keyston, David. What Did Jesus Say? The Second Coming of Christ. USA: Cross and Crown Publications Christ Advent and Healing Unlimited, Inc., 2025

Keyston left his membership in the Christian Science church in 1996 and now identifies as an independent Christian Scientist advocating Mary Baker Eddy’s place in biblical prophecy. He sharply criticizes The First Church of Christ, Scientist, for what he views as its failure to acknowledge Eddy’s true place in prophecy. The book advances an interpretation of biblical prophecy that culminates in a first and second advent of Christ: Jesus embodies the first, while Eddy’s Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures represents the second. Part 1 surveys Old Testament passages interpreted as anticipating the first advent. Part 2 extends this framework to portray both Jesus and Eddy as fulfillments of Christ’s two advents. Part 3 catalogs resistance to this view, framing disagreement largely as institutional suppression by both the Roman Catholic church and Christian Science leadership, particularly the Board of Directors. Part 4 moves from interpretation to exhortation, urging readers to participate in ushering in the millennium. The appendix, the longest section of the volume, reproduces extensive excerpts from Eddy’s writings and other sources offered as corroborating evidence. Among these materials, the Acts of Paul and Thecla is included in support of female leadership.
